June 9th, 2018 – MANDATORY Student meeting for all Marching Band and Color Guard Students participating or planning to participate during the 2018/19 school year.
Summer Music Academy begins July 31st for all NEW members (freshman through senior) and leadership; August 2nd for returning members. Consult the KR calendar for specific times of your KR activities. To prepare for Summer Music Academy (SMA), attend all Summer Rehearsals when you are in town, complete KR Enrollment Process and Athletic Clearance Physical, and get adequate sleep during SMA to promote concentration and endurance. Start drinking extra water several days before SMA begins to get your body hydrated and prepared.
Beginning Week 2, SMA days are long (1 pm-9 pm), and students will be outside often. We recommend you label and bring the items below in a backpack every day starting Day 1 of SMA (you’ll be glad you did).
WHAT TO WEAR
Light Grey or White T-shirt (example: avoid sunburned shoulders by wearing short sleeves rather than tank tops)
Shorts or Exercise Pants (must be able to stretch and move; jeans are not appropriate)
Tennis shoes/Sneakers/Sports shoes (no sandals, flip-flops, or boots)
WHAT TO BRING
Filled Water Bottle (quart/liter size or larger – example) – info on staying hydrated
Bring a brown bag dinner -or- pre-order SMA Dinners* (needed only Week 2 and 3 of SMA)
Sunscreen (30 SPF or higher recommended)
Hat with brim/visor
Dot Book (3″x5″ spiral bound index cards – example)
Pencil (for writing in Dot Book)
Energy Snacks (nothing that melts in the sun or needs refrigeration – example)
Bug Repellent Spray
*Dinner break is 45 minutes (not long enough to leave campus and return on time for field practice). As a convenience (and fundraiser), SMA Dinners are available for advance order/purchase to help assure your student is nourished and rested during their 45-minute dinner break. These dinners are from local restaurants, brought to campus, and served by booster parents. Order SMA Dinners here.
